Organic Information

Our organic rhizomes are from our own yards in Sorrento BC. While we have had occasional issues with mildew, we strive to provide only clean stock. We do not use any fungicide on our plants. All organic rhizomes are certified by NOOA, and are BC Certified Organic only. This means that we do not hold national certification, although we do conform to the National Regime. Please let your organic certification agency know this before purchasing organic rhizomes. Preference for our organic rhizomes will go to commercial growers on existing organic farms.

We have brought in non-organically grown hops from commercial yards in Oregon and Washington to allow Canadian homebrewers to have access to more varieties. We do our best to supply top-grade, disease-free rhizomes, but these rhizomes are from commercial yards which suffer from mildew and disease. Expect around 10% mortality. These rhizomes have been treated with a contact fungicide. Please observe safe chemical handling procedures, using gloves to handle the hops. Please note: While this fungicide is not organic, we have been assured by our certifier that section 5.3.2.2 in the Canadian National Standard applies: non-organic perennial planting stocks may be used but must go through a 12 month (from planting date) transition period before the crop from them can be sold as certified organic. Therefore, no-one need worry about difficulties with organic regulations due to these rhizomes.

No hops have been genetically modified or propagated using GMOs.
